AIESEC ukm is online.

The website can now be viewed online in all its fame and glory. check it out

http://www.blogger.com/www.aiesecukm.org

Before it went online there were a few changes that took place.

  • The background color was changed from orange to black. The orange wasn't that attractive and I got alot of bad feedback on using orange as a background.I got to know there are alternative colors when it comes to branding, which is black and white.

  • The website was center aligned. Being left aligned caused the web site to look unbalanced when viewed on wide screen and higher resolutions. Using tracking tools I discovered the website was mostly viewed on laptops.(guessing mostly students viewed it)

  • A Major event called 'EYLN' (entrepreneurship youth learning network) by AIESEC UKM is coming and needs publicity. So the main flash was changed to something related to EYLN. It also linked to the online registration page of this workshop.

  • A forum was created for the use of the clubs members as a collaberation and communication platform. The forum is a php bb forum.

I feel there are improvements that can be made or even a whole new facelift. However as a designer thats my nature. If the design proccess goes over 4 weeks, i get bored of the design, and get new ideas. So sadly I'll have to be firm and put down my foot here.

Here's some screen shot from my site tracking tool. It give a whole lot of information about the people who have been viewing the page.

Target audience demographics

Here's a quite overdue more detailed demographics of the target audience.

The primary audience is for youth. Potential AIESECers and current members of AIESEC. The secondary audience is corporates that are partners and stakeholders of aiesec. However for this website we will focus on the primary audience. but we will keep the secondary audience in the back of our minds as well.

Current AIESECers and the Kind of youth AIESEC targets are

1. Dynamic young people, of the age limit between 18-30

2. University Students, Graduates and Post Graduates

3. Individuals that are interested in

  • Leadership
  • Entreprenurship
  • Working in the industry even before graduating
  • Living in diversity and want to expand their worldview.

Most of these I am able to convay as I am an aiesecer myself. Lets hear what heads of large corporates have to say about AIESECERS

"In our experience, AIESEC students possess exactly the qualities we are looking for: international and intercultural awareness, integrity, intuition and communication skills. We are always happy to have talented, committed and open-minded AIESEC students on internships with us and to share their spirit which enriches the corporate culture tremendously.”
Dr Peter WuffliChief Financial Officer, UBS

"I am convinced that AIESEC is our most direct link to tomorrow’s business leaders. These training opportunities will become a stepping stone for bright, ‘can-do’ people to join DHL and learn, advance, and one day lead."
Uwe DoerkenCEO, DHL Worldwide

“AIESEC, in my view, is the dominant organization at the university level committed to global personal and professional development. Our partnership with AIESEC has brought incredible energy, depth and breadth to our firm.”
Richard L. BairdGlobal Human Capital Leader, PricewaterhouseCoopers

So overall if we could sum these all up into a group of keywords about our target audience it would be

global - Intercultural - talented - open minded - internship - business minded - leadership - proffesional - energetic - Youth - University

I will be using these as a guide to base my design on. not forgetting to maintain the aiesec branding at all times.

branding and animation

Within the website the brand of AIESEC must be maintained at all times. It must reflect AIESEC Malaysia and AIESEC international. The main colors of AIESEC is blue and orange. not just any blue but #003399 and #EE8823 for orange.

All typeface used will be arial. Body will be of size 12 while headings will be size 14.

Since the main function and priority is for exchange I've decided to have a simple animation of that in the main banner.

It will be of a youth jumping happyily in an abstract room. in this room there will be lots of flags. while on the other side there will be the ocean.

I found the above images on istockphoto. Next I will combine them into a series of layers so they can be animated in flash. the girl and the text are in different layers so that they can be animated

Site Map and Layout Design

Went to UKM last week to meet the information managment team of the AIESEC club. Its a small team really. just 3 members. Assunta is the vice president of imformation managment and Drat tang is an excutive and well, myself. their newest addition. So after a lengthy discussion we were able to decide on what information will be included in the site. the site map of the site is as follows

  • Home

  • About
    about AIESEC
    about AIESEC UKM
    achievements

  • Alumni

  • Coorporates

News

The layout will be a simple 2 column layout, which is as follows

The header will contain the name of the club. along with the logo of UKM. underneath that there will be the AIESEC logo.

The flash area will work for attention pulling. This will change from time to time dependin on what the club is presently focusing on

The subscribe form is used to grab the email of the user as soon as possible. these emails obtained will serve as leads for getting new memebers.

News and events on the right side column will show what the club is currently upto. giving a sence of dynamic-ness.

Partner logos of corporates the club currently has partnerships with will be displayed showing our gratitude towards them.

Drat will be in charge of cordinating with other departments and obtaining the content required. Additional Imagery required will be purchased from http://www.istockphoto.com/. As a proffesional designer I'm oblidged not to steal images from google.

Selection of project. - AIESEC UKM

Aaaand the lucky organization that gets to enjoy the glory and glamour of getting thier site done by yours truely goes too..(drum roll!!!)...the local commitee of AIESEC UKM!!!

Currently i'm an active member in the information managment unit of this club. Althought this is more of a club it goes as an NGO. Sadly MMU doesnt have an AIESEC club. i can understand that as AIESEC clubs need to be active at all times in order to avoid terminations. there are only 7 AIESEC clubs in malaysia at the moment. and AIESEC UKM is the 2nd oldest club in malaysia, founded in 1967.

AIESEC, (pronounced as one word; originally an acronym for Association Internationale des Étudiants en Sciences Économiques et Commerciales) is an international, not-for-profit, non-political, organisation run by students and recent graduates of institutions of higher education. It describes itself as “The international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential so as to have a positive impact on society”. Its international office is currently in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The AIESEC network as of February 2008 includes 30,000 students in 113 countries at over 1100 universities across the globe, and realizes around 5000 exchanges yearly.

Demographics of target audience

the AIESEC club of UKM will be targeting the following audience through its web page.
potential new members to the clubpotential students interested in applying for exchange
current and potential partners andof AIESEC UKMcurrent and potential stake holders - companies that recruit interns from aiesec

Therefor while we are focusing at a diverce crowd ranging from young energetic youth to top corporates. the design of the site should convay the aiesec brand and the personality of aiesecers
